About the District

The Carlisle Community School District, located just southeast of Des Moines, is a rapidly-growing district that includes the cities of Carlisle, Hartford, Avon Lake, Palmyra, Easter Lake, and a portion of southeast Des Moines.

The district enrolls approximately 2,300 students in four schools. Carlisle High School is a class 3-A high school serving students in grades 9-12. Carlisle Middle School, which was built in 2007, serves grades 6-8. Hartford Upper Elementary, serves students in grades 4 and 5. Carlisle Elementary School, which is immediately adjacent to the high school and the district office, serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade 3.

While Carlisle is located just 15 minutes from downtown Des Moines, the area has retained all of the benefits of small-town life. The school district offers abundant opportunities in terms of both curricular and extra-curricular activities, while maintaining manageably sized schools and classes.
