7th & 8th Grade Social Studies: Mr. Heitmeier

7th and 8th Grade Social Studies are year-long courses located in Room 126. The CMS Social Studies department is dedicated to giving students a variety of learning opportunities throughout the school year. As a Pre-Ap school, our students will be actively engaged in our lessons. Social Studies units are Inquiry based, where students will be working with primary and secondary sources to help answer Compelling and Supporting Questions.Students will be able to explore a variety of Contemporary Issues in 7th grade from the Colonization of Africa to Conflicts in the Middle East. In American History in 8th grade students will begin with Native American culture and explorers and finish with the Civil War.  
 
Mr. Heitmeier grew up in Mount Pleasant, Iowa where he participated in four Varsity sports (football, basketball, track, baseball). After graduating from Mount Pleasant Community High School in 2009, Mr. Heitmeier attended Simpson College where he majored in History/Secondary Education while earning four Varsity Letters in football and baseball. In 2013, Mr. Heitmeier graduated and worked as substitute teacher in Indianola and Carlisle. In 2014, Mr. Heitmeier began teaching 7th Grade Social Studies, where he has remained ever since. In 2018, Mr. Heitmeier began teaching two class periods of 8th Grade Social Studies. 
 
In 2015, Mr. Heitmeier was hired as the Head Baseball Coach for the Carlisle Wildcats after serving as an Assistant Baseball Coach in Indianola for two years. Mr. Heitmeier has also worked as an Assistant Coach for the Football team in Carlisle since 2014.
 
Mr. Heitmeier lives in Carlisle with his wife, Kaitlyn, and daughter, Lyla.
