Rick Johnston is currently in his fifth year teaching math at Carlisle Middle School. Previously he taught middle school and high school for 12 years at Guthrie Center Schools. Mr. Johnston grew up in the small town of Alden, IA and graduated from Alden Community High School in 1998. He earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School endorsement at Northwestern College (Orange City) in 2002, and later received his Secondary Math endorsement through Upper Iowa University. Mr. Johnston lives in Dallas Center with his wife (Katie), daughter (Kealey), and two dogs (Lizzy and Wonder). Katie is also a teacher and is currently an instructional coach at Dallas Center-Grimes Middle School. Kealey is a second grader at Dallas Center Elementary and loves playing softball, jumping on her trampoline, and watching Disney. Outside of school, Mr. Johnston enjoys spending time coaching baseball and softball, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and traveling to new places with his family.
