Mr. Johnston - CMS Building Learning Coordinator

I have been teaching at Carlisle since 2014 and my current position is Building Learning Coordinator (or BLC). My role is to support both staff and students to improve teaching and learning practices to achieve high levels for all. Prior to being a BLC, I taught 6th-8th grade math and algebra for 6 years. I also taught middle school and high school math for 12 years at Guthrie Center Schools before I started at Carlisle.
I grew up in the small town of Alden, IA and graduated from Alden Community High School in 1998. Then earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School endorsement at Northwestern College (Orange City, IA) in 2002, and later received my Secondary Math endorsement through Upper Iowa University. I live in Dallas Center with my wife (Katie), daughter (Kealey), and two dogs (Lizzy and Wonder). Outside of school, I enjoy spending time coaching baseball and softball, watching my daughter play sports, cheering on the Hawkeyes, watching Netflix, reading books, and traveling to new places with my family.
