High School Language Arts Re-Take Policy

The English Language Arts department’s reassessment opportunities on Springboard Embedded Assessments will value both the writing process and the final writing product.

All summative assessments must be completed by the end of the semester in order for students to receive credit for the course. Students will be required to come in before or after school to complete a reflection and turn in work.

Designated retakes: You may retake/attempt to improve one summative assessment per unit.

To have this opportunity on writing and speech summative assessments, you must have completed the following assignments on the correct due dates:

  1. Outline
  2. Rough draft

If these aren’t completed on the due dates, you do not have the opportunity for reassessing.

Re: Writing Process

To ensure that a reassessment will be available (if desired by student), students will need to meet two formative deadlines:

  1. An outline of the writing that will be drafted
  2. A rough draft of the writing that will be finalized

In both cases, these pieces will be used in class for peer feedback and/or teacher questions. We believe that these steps in the writing process are key to preparing a top quality final draft.

Re: Writing Product

Once evaluated, a student who has met these deadlines may opt to revise one aspect of the writing (content ideas, structure, or mechanics) and type up an explanation:

  1. What was changed
  2. Why you changed it
  3. How you will avoid such mistakes in future writing assignments
