Hello! My name is Mr. John Elkin and I have served as the principal of CMS since 2014. Prior to CMS, I was both the principal (and assistant principal) at Webster City High School from 2004-14. I began my career as a high school English teacher at both Saydel (Des Moines, IA) and Paton-Churdan (Churdan, IA).
At Carlisle Middle School we enjoy teaching students! The cornerstone of CMS' success is built upon the foundation of its staff operating as a Professional Learning Community; we collaboratively focus on academic success through assessment for learning according to each student's needs.
At CMS, our staff is equipped to teach Pre-AP strategies and tools to engage all students in rigorous academic levels; this not only assists them in a successful transition to Carlisle High School, but also begins the process for preparing them for success in college-and/or-career-programs.
Along with Pre-AP core courses, CMS also offers Project Lead The Way (PLTW) and Computer Programming in every grade. Furthermore, we offer several Pre-High School credit classes including Algebra 1, Physical Science, and Spanish 1.
CMS operates within a 7 period schedule in which all classes are 52 minutes in length. Four (4) times a week we also have a 20 minute embedded intervention period called WIN ("Whatever I Need") which is tailored towards specific student needs in the areas of core academics.
If you're moving or considering moving to Carlisle and want to visit CMS, I would be happy to personally meet with you so you may learn more about CMS and its programs. Feel free to contact me at 515.989.5402 or via email at
