School Resource Officer (SRO)
Carlisle Middle School along with the Carlisle Police Department is pleased to announce that Officer Lucas Hauser has been assigned as the department’s first School Resource Officer (SRO) for the 2018/2019 school year. In this role, Officer Hauser will serve as a liaison between the Carlisle Police Department and the Carlisle Community School District. Officer Hauser has been with the Carlisle Police Department for just over a year and previously served as an officer with the Toledo Police Department. As part of his duties, Officer Hauser will also attend a variety of extracurricular activities throughout the year.
The School Resource Officer will fill three primary roles and objectives:
1) Educator: The SRO will advise students, parents, and faculty on law enforcement related issues as well as present programs on a variety of law enforcement and emergency response related topics that may include; drug abuse and awareness, emergency response procedures, crime prevention, and bullying.
2) Mentor/counselor: The SRO will be a positive role model for students and will work to identify and prevent delinquent behaviors through informal counseling and referrals. The SRO’s daily interactions with students, parents, and faculty will help to develop positive relationships and provide for a safer environment for all.
3) Law Enforcement Officer: The SRO will investigate criminal complaints and enforce state laws and city ordinances. The SRO will help provide a safe environment through collaborative and preventative security planning with district officials when needed.
This position is made possible with $125,000.00 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice COPS as well as funding from the Carlisle Police Department and Carlisle Community School District; both CMS and CPD s extremely excited for this opportunity and the continued partnership with our school district!
